Editorial Standards

This page describes how Servant Publishing researches, writes, reviews, and corrects what it publishes, including exactly how artificial intelligence is used in production, and who is accountable when something is wrong.
Who publishes this
Servant Publishing LLC is an independent digital publishing company founded in 2017 and based in Edmond, Oklahoma. It is owned and operated by Todd Temaat, a retired U.S. Air Force officer.
Todd is personally accountable for everything published under Servant Publishing and under the sites it operates. Corrections, complaints, and questions reach him directly through the contact page.
What we publish
Servant Publishing operates niche information sites and publishes evaluations of software and tools, practical how-to and automation material, and develops reference resources in the subject areas its sites cover. Every site it operates carries a footer identifying Servant Publishing as the publisher, and each is listed on our projects page.
How we research
Primary sources first. Where a claim can be checked against the original source, like a vendor’s product page, a peer-reviewed study, an official document, or a statute, it is. If we can realistically do our own first-person research, we do.
Any tool we evaluate, we use. If we describe an interface, a workflow, a limit, or a price, we have used the tool or software ourselves. Where a claim rests on a trial we ran, we say when we ran it, because software frequently changes.
When credible sources disagree, we say so and show the disagreements rather than silently picking the more convenient number or statement. When we cannot verify something, we do not publish it.
How we use AI
As a small, lean business, Servant Publishing uses AI to assist in the research, writing, and workflow automation of our products and services.
What AI does here. AI assists with research gathering, summarizing source material, structuring outlines, drafting prose, and editing for clarity. Much of the first-draft text on our sites and materials is AI-assisted.
What AI never does here.
- No AI-generated text is published without a human reading it. If facts, statistics, or statements need to be verified, a human verifies them all.
- AI does not generate first-hand experience. If a page says we tested something, a person tested it.
- AI does not generate screenshots, test results, measurements, or pricing tables. Those come from the actual product. We do use AI to generate general website images and the HTML our websites run on, however.
- AI does not generate quotes, testimonials, reviews, or statistics. A number without a source does not go on the page and every number is verified before posting.
- AI does not invent citations. Every source referenced is checked to exist and to say what we claim it says.
The reason for the line in that place is simple: AI is good at compiling information and developing a useful way to discuss topics. It does not, however, have the ability to judge or discern and it does not have personal experience or proper context to do these things well.
Original evidence on recommendation pages
Any page that recommends a product, compares options, or is likely to influence a purchase carries at least one piece of evidence we produced ourselves:
- screenshots from an actual account or trial;
- a pricing or feature comparison table we built from current live data;
- synthesized user sentiment drawn from named, linked sources; or
- results from a test, survey, or measurement we ran.
A page that has nothing of its own to add is a page we should not have published.
Review before publication
Every page is read in full by a human before it goes live. That review checks that claims are supported by the cited source, that figures match the source, that links resolve and point where they claim to, that first-hand claims are actually first-hand, and that any material connection is disclosed at the point of recommendation.
Nothing publishes on a schedule that would require skipping this.
Corrections
We will get things wrong. When we do, we want to know.
Report an error through the contact page, with the page address and what you believe is incorrect.
Updates and freshness
Pages covering software, pricing, or anything else that changes periodically carry the date they were last reviewed. A review date means a person re-checked the claims on that date.
Affiliate relationships and advertising
Servant Publishing earns affiliate commissions on some of the products it writes about. Where that is the case, the disclosure appears before the link, at the point of recommendation, in plain language.
Commission rates do not determine what we recommend or how we rank options. Where a product we earn nothing from is the better answer, that is the answer we give. We do not accept payment for a favorable review, and we do not let a vendor approve copy before publication.
Full details are on our affiliate disclosure page. Our obligations under the FTC’s endorsement guides (16 CFR Part 255) and the Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule (16 CFR Part 465) apply regardless of how a page was produced.
Accountability
These standards are published so they can be held against us. If something on a Servant Publishing site does not meet what is written here, please report it to us through the contact page.
